CX500 built out of stone

Just when you thought the world couldn't get any crazier, along comes a competitor with an entry to a German magazine's custom build project: a Honda CX500 built out of stone.
The magazine, Custombike, invited readers to build 'the baddest motorcycle' in a competition they named 'Build da Fukker'. Only two rules applied; a 5,000 Euro spend limit, and the machine had to be functional.
Custom builder Chris Zernia decided his build would be carved from Basalt stone.
“Basalt is my favourite stone,” said Zernia. “The problem was the weight with respect to the capability of the bike's frame. Due to the stone it had to carry an extra weight of 130kgs.” The whole bike registers 350kgs on the scales.
Zernia had to reinforce the frame with additional steel tubing. The suspension is from a Honda VT600 Shadow and the rear shocks are those fitted to a Harley Davidson Dyna. He says that despite the weight the bike rides “pretty normal”. But as it doesn't have a front brake, a dose of bravery needs to be factored in before you'd swing a leg over this one.
He intends to go on building stone bikes with his next project being an old HD 1100 Sportster that he's already named 'Rolling Stone'.
