It's a Clean Machine - but you'd better get off

The easy way to wash your motorcycle

John Newman

Bike cleaning...two things for us UK motorcyclists to consider:
* First, the average age of a motorcyclist is now at the top end of forty.
* Second, we live and ride in a climate that drops a lot of wet stuff on us, and this combines with general road muck and spillage to grime up our machines
.

There's not a lot we can do about age. But boy do those knees and other joints feel it after a thirty or forty minute grime eradication session. Isn't it about time an automatic bike wash was introduced to the market?

Wash and brush up

At the recent Intermot bike show in Cologne, a Swiss company exhibited an automatic drive in motorcycle washing machine. And before you ask, you park the bike and leave the confines of the washer, hopefully before the water and cleaning jets begin their work www.iwashmybike.com. The machine recycles the water used several times to be more ecologically sound. However once the water is too dirty it is thrown out.

Here is a film of it in action iwashmybike

As we enter the seasons of mostly wet and cold, this could be a big item on a riders wish list. It's not something for personal ownership, but an enterprising dealer on a busy bike commuter route might benefit from installing one of these. Or one placed at a garage cum filling station could find itself popular with riders, who'd probably top up with fuel and other goodies purchased in these places.

As ever in the world of rapid technological advance and invention, this is not entirely new and exclusive. There was a video on You Tube for a while of a US set up where the rider is slightly confused by the instructions and just about extricates himself from the cabin before he gets washed too.

It's a wash out

Or there's clip where a bloke on a Kawasaki takes himself and his bike into a drive through car wash...cleans your riding gear too www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgqlBgXe8Yc

What do you think, is it going to catch on?
