Give It A Go
The Barnsley Bike festival
John Newman
This year the Barnsley Bikers are celebrating their 30th anniversary. They're an active bunch and each year they organise a unique little event at a Kart track in the village of Wombwell near Barnsley in S Yorkshire. So if you're within striking distance of that area: listen up!
It's called Barnsley Motorcycle Festival
'Show With Go', and the action takes place on Sunday June 28th. The idea is that you pay your entry and bring your bike; anything goes but the more interesting the better. Park it up and listen for the announcement for when your bike class is ushered onto the half mile track (five bends) for your riding session.
In the meantime you can wander round and look at other folks bikes, visit the refreshment marquee, which is always very reasonably priced, and talk bikes – being oop north they're a friendly crowd.
If you enter in advance it will cost just £5 (£7.50 on the day), and you are guaranteed a good time; unless you drop the bike, which is a rare occurrence. This has to be one of the biking bargains of the year.
Wemoto will be there dispensing free goodies to the multitudes, and there are trophies too.
