Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
It's this weekend folks!
Your shoes have just been polished. You've just got your suit back from the dry cleaners. You've been growing your moustache for weeks, ready for the final side curling that's certain to make you look every bit the dapper gent that you are. What can all this mean? It's time for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride!
This Sunday all over the world, more than 25,568 men will get suited and booted, jump on their bikes and ride for prostate cancer. The DGR, which is sponsored by Triumph, has been running since 2012, not only raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer but also helping to change common misconceptions about motorcyclists. Two really great causes and you can find out more about them
here.
Our very own John Younge is riding it this year and he's got his pin-striped suit ready. He's riding the London DGR so, if you're in the city, keep any eye out for someone who looks like this:
Not actually sure if he's going to be wearing THAT tash but here's hoping!
You can sponsor John
here:
So far so good
This year has proven to be the most popular yet as far as numbers are concerned, with around 5,000 more riders this year than the last, and 23,000 more than the first year!
Funds have reached $1,659,672 (at date of publication: 24/09/15), already more than last year, and they're still collecting.
Safety First
For those of you who are taking part this Sunday, Triumph has issued some safety advice:
- Make sure to check that your bike is in working and safe order before riding
- Try to remain at a safe distance from your fellow riders
- Whilst flap caps may look the part, you'll still need to wear a helmet and goggles if the area/country you're riding in requires it
- The ride should last for about 3 hours – bring sun cream (wishful thinking perhaps for us UK folk), water, food etc. as required
- DGR is a slow-paced event, please keep your speed down!
If you are taking part in the DGR on Sunday, we hope you have a lot of fun! Send us a pic of yourself in your smart attire and we'll post it on our site.
