05/12/16 - It's so cold I saw a Tory politician with his hands in his own pockets

05/12/16 - I remember when our Honda 750K7 was our only transport, snow, ice wind and rain we were out there.

Fair weather biker now

05/12/16 - Snow is not for the bike??????????

05/12/16 - Snow is fine, so long as you're careful and you're not on wide near-slick tyres (ie the pictured bike is borderline, but a supermoto or more utilitarian model should be OK, and the lower capacity the better in fact, both to discourage you from going too hard and so it actually trickles along at 15-20mph without feeling strangled). It's ice that's the killer problem.

05/12/16 - Been out there and will continue

05/12/16 - That Honda will never stop in the snow!

05/12/16 - You mean the engine, or the brakes?

05/12/16 - Brakes, if the engine starts. I've seen the fireworks under a Honda of that age tank!

05/12/16 - well, it was on Monday and Tuesday, and more particularly too slippery. Maybe i should have made more effort and put the handguards back on but even riding home as slowly as i could get away with inamongst rush hour traffic i had to stop off and get some forgotten but non essential shopping at Lidl just to have an excuse to get inside in the warm and bring the feeling back to my fingers as there was still almost another 10 mins to go. And that's with hotgrips on full blast, more or less winter spec gloves plus undergloves, top and bottom thermals, normal work clothes, jumper, leathers on top, and a neckerchief.

Having experienced the decidedly less than entertaining effects of yer actual hypothermia before (being daft enough to attempt a 100+ mile run on the motorway in an almost as cold November with less warming gear and having to creak my way into the services to avoid death), i decided to take the cage for the rest of the week.

Given how hard the heater and AC had to work to keep the glass clear, and how often the ABS and traction control triggered off, and even the ESP at one point (possibly the third time ever since I've had the car), without driving harshly on the offending surfaces, i think that was a good call.

The coming week looks a bit more sympathetic however...
