'Bee'utiful Bike Recovery
Witch doctor sends swarm of bees to recover stolen motorcycle
Last week, we gave you news of a superhero dressed motorcyclist who recovered his own bike after it had been stolen. This week, well, it's gotten even stranger. A rider in Kenya recovered his stolen motorcycle by getting a local witch doctor to send a huge swarm of bees to hunt for it, scaring the thief off.
'Come again?', you ask. The theft took place in Mbooni, Makueni County. The owner, not knowing what else to do, hired a witch doctor to help, which, as weird as it sounds, is not that uncommon in Kenya or some other parts of Africa.
The bees were apparently already lingering at a local market. So the witch doctor summoned them to search for his bike, swarm the motorcycle and its thief. And it worked. Half the bees chased the thief away while the other half stayed with the bike to protect it until its owner arrived to claim it back.
A local police assistant has offered an explanation for those who're feeling sceptical. He claimed that the bees swarmed the motorcycle, covering the dashboard and gas tank, after their queen bee got stuck in the handlebar. And that it was a coincidence that the bike had been nicked.
It seems a shame nothing like this ever happens in the UK – just imagine the buzz it would've created in the media. Sorry, couldn't resist.
