Are Friends Electric?

Small is beautiful - when you’re talking about a folding electric motorcycle

Or is it - what do you think ? How about this, the MotoCompo suitcase sized petrol 2.5 hp 49cc folding scooter - super cool, or are you a bit underwhelmed? It was designed in 1981 and manufactured until 1983 coming in Daisy Yellow, Shetland White and Caribbean Red with handlebars, seat and foot pegs folding neatly away into its plastic body. The bike ended up as a little box 46.7x9.4x 21.3in - a neat size for transporting around in your boot!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, like the diminutive Honda Monkey Bike much loved by John Lennon, this little imp gained unlikely cult status in the 1980s selling over 50,000. And capitalising on this many years after the main event, it looks as though it might be making a comeback as the trademark Motocompacto for a concept bike resembling it’s precursor the Motocompo has been filed by Honda, but this time it’s going to be electric!

The batteries will be removable for charging purposes with a two hour charging time. It is likely to be designed with 40 mile range and a 500W engine producing a 15mph top speed. Great little run around for town perhaps?

So this is so far only a concept bike and may never actually leave the drawing board but Honda have had success with their little fellows in the past and it looks to be a versatile pint sized bike if it ever gets actually developed.
