A punnet of motorcycle gloves please
with a jacket thrown in
Come March the 8th there will be a new delicious product to tempt you on the shelves of Aldi supermarket – motorcycle gear!
You might be mistaken for thinking that supermarkets sell food – well where have you been - obviously they sell bargain motorcycle stuff too or at least Aldi do. Aldi claim that their prices will be the cheapest on the market but say that doesn't meant that they have taken any shortcuts with quality. Far from it their clothes have passed the requisite tests with good results.
For example their jacket and trousers pass the requirements for impact abrasion and impact cut resistance required by the EN13595-1: standard Level two. They even exceed the requirement for impact abrasion (seven seconds).
With jackets at £80, motorcycle trousers £60 and boots and gloves for under £30 it seems like a steal.
So the quality is up there and they are fully tested to high standards and the prices are very reasonable – strange but true. There are also motorcycle covers and locks and other accessories in the range.
As an endorsement,
John Chatterton-Ross, of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), gave his thoughts on Aldi's range:
"This is the first time I've seen a UK retailer selling a motorcycling jacket and trousers of this high standard at such low prices.
"The protection offered by Aldi's products exceeds the requirements for impact abrasion and impact cut resistance demanded by the European standard for zones 1 and 2 in all zones. Few products on the market can match this. Often, even in premium brands, it is only the protectors that are certified, not the rest of the garment.
"It is great to see that with Aldi's motorcycling jacket and trousers, safety does not have to come with a high price tag."
So how much do you care about and how highly do you rate the brands you buy? Will you be nipping down to Aldi for a pint of milk and a pair of motorcycle trousers? Let us know what you think, only a few days to wait till the 8th now!
